Have a Blood Blister? 6 Precautions You Should Take
There are plenty of steps to help you prevent your next outbreak, but there are also many things you need to be aware of when you currently have a blood blister. If you currently have a fever blister, there are certain precautions you should take to prevent further problems. You want to minimize any chances of re-infection, and you want to start the healing process as soon as possible.
1. Throw away your toothbrush
Once your blisters go away, you should throw away your toothbrush. This is because the germs on toothbrushes can actually re-infect you, causing the development of more cold sores. Other things that touch your face/mouth on a regular basis should be tossed or cleaned thoroughly. For example, face towels should be cleaned thoroughly, with bleach if possible.
2. Avoid contact with others while infected
While you have cold sores, even if you are using a blister treatment, try to avoid direct skin-to-skin contact with other people. You do not want to spread your virus, and if you don’t already know, herpes is extremely contagious. Avoid kissing people, or even touching their face. Warn people of your virus, and try to do all you can to prevent its spread.
3. Try to isolate the problem
If left alone, blisters will often spread, getting worse and worse. You should try to limit the infection to the sores you have already. To do this, I recommend applying ice to the affected area several times a day. If you can, do it for 5-10 minutes every hour. If that’s not possible, shoot for at least 5 times per day. The ice will help heal existing sores, and cut off the spread of future blisters.
4. Eat well
Certain foods are proven to trigger outbreaks. If you already have an outbreak, eating these foods will only worsen the situation. These foods are: chocolate, whole wheat, peas, nuts, grains, fatty foods, acidic foods, and salt. You don’t have to completely eliminate these from your diet, but it’s a good idea to at least decrease your consumption.
5. Get healthy
A lot of the time fever blisters are caused by illnesses, such as fever (hence the name). If you are sick, try to get healthy. This will help your cold sores heal quicker. Generally, eating well and staying in shape will help you stay healthy and avoid illnesses. Also, exercising regularly helps because you sweat out toxins that are in your body.
6. Avoid prolonged sun exposure
Prolonged exposure to the sun is linked to the triggering of cold sores. If you have a sore, or have in the past, try to avoid sun exposure. If you must stay outside for a long time on a hot day, use sun block on the affected area. SPF 15 or higher works best. Be careful, though, as some sun screens will actually worsen the blisters, especially if your skin has a negative reaction to it. Use sun block brands that you have used in the past and know you’re not allergic to.
When a child is sick, they become so vulnerable.
Your heart goes out to them, but I have to admit it makes me a little happy, too.
Recently my oldest son, Nick, age 11, threw up on a school field trip to the museum.
He felt queasy. First he tried to sleep it off behind one of the glass cases. But when he stood up, barf! On the museum floor.
He came home, went straight to bed. I’d been working in my home office.
I tucked him in. I offered him drinks, snacks.
“Dad, I just need to sleep, I’m so tired.”
Maybe it’s just me, I was assailed by horrible thoughts. What if he has appendicitis, and those were his last words.
Cut to me brushing past the news media. “I can’t talk right now. His last words were ‘Dad I’m so tired.'”
But when he woke up he was fine. That is, he puked a couple more times, into the bowl provided by yours truly, but eventually recovered. Kids get so sick; then they recover so quick. It’s alarming and amazing.
The thing is, he was so sweetly vulnerable during his convalescence. He’s been so independent. It was the first time in a long time,. I realized, he needed me like that.
I have to admit, I sort of…savored it.
Is it sick of me to have that feeling? Is that some kind of Munchhausen’s-by-proxy type thing? Do I need to get more of a life?
Personal review from the editor:
I feel our kids are growing up way to fast.our little babies that depend on us for every move that they make, all of a sudden wake up one day and don’t need us so much anymore.they wake up in the morning want to get there own breakfast,Woolf it down and out they go off to school for 6 1/2 hours then come home long enough to get homework done and outside again till it’s time to eat.if you go out side to be with them in the park and their with their friends well that’s just a big No No how embarrassing to have your mom or dad there with your friends.then it’s bed time come tuck me in, but No kiss.
(I’m much to old for that).
Well ok maybe on the cheek. I say I Love you have a good sleep. And get a returned goodnight. So I repeat I Love you then get I Love you in return. Are they really to old for kisses and saying I Love you. Hmmm..
So we as parents don’t get to see our kids needy or vulnerable unless they are hurt or sick.
On weekends they are off all day playing with the friends that they see all week at school.
So at last one day a week is mine with my kids we pick a day for family day we do everything together for the day then at night we can cuddle on the couch ad watch a movie have popcorn/Chips or whatever.
it’s a special day for me to spend time with my kids.
they don’t seem to get sick to often so I decided to take a day a week it’s my day with the kids and I enjoy it.

Spot an Eating Disorder in Teens
I think these “signs” of eating disorder are so general and obvious.. many of us who suffer the worst with eating disorders and depression and hating our bodies/selves are silent. I never once complained about feeling “fat” or or audibly compared myself to others or mentioned my body in front of ANYONE period- because I was so ashamed of myself I did not want anyone else to think about my body and if I didn’t bring it up I hoped no one would think about it. I also was ashamed of my eating disorder (bulimia nervosa), I didn’t want anyone to find out and I didn’t want anyone to mention anything to me about the possible things I was doing, so I faked happy. I became numb inside to everything and I just went through the motions of being content because it was easier when no one else badgered me.
My family and friends had no idea, besides the weight loss, but because I seemed fine no one ever tried to help me. I think it is articles like this that make it seem like the signs of an eating disorder will be so *obvious* and cookie-cutter that make the general public unaware of the truth; that while some people do exhibit these outward signs of being sick, many do not and it is not because they are well. I also wish the public would be aware that just because someone is not rail thin or isn’t even losing much weight does not mean they could not have an eating disorder.
